But first, a little bit about me. I grew up in central New Jersey, riding hunters and jumpers with Callan Solem and Carol Thompson at Quiet Winter Farm. With the support of my parents and trainers, I was able to show in the Children’s Jumpers and Jr. Hunters at some of the best shows on the East Coast – Lake Placid, HITS Catskills and Ocala, and the Hampton Classic, just to name a few.
After my junior years, I took a break from riding while I earned my B.A. in Journalism from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. My introduction to equestrian media came in 2007 in the form of a summer internship with Phelps Media Group. At PMG, I learned about the ins-and-outs of equestrian PR and got the opportunity to cover Horse Shows by the Bay in Traverse City, Mich., on-site for three weeks. Since 2008, I’ve worked at The New England Journal of Medicine while growing my freelance writing and copy editing business. I have written for Phelps Sports and Jennifer Wood Media, among others.
As a 26-year-old equestrian in Boston, finding the time (and money) to ride has been challenging. Not surprisingly, I am currently horseless. Luckily, my mom is a local trainer in NJ and is able to provide me with several wonderful horses (and ponies) to ride whenever I visit. Until I find my next equine partner, I find comfort in covering the H/J scene through my freelance assignments.
I look forward to writing for The StableWoman Gazette and hope to provide you with a well-rounded perspective of the Hunter/Jumper industry. Please feel free to email me at edevoe@comcast.net with any story ideas or questions.
